Three steps to put in place now to get the press coverage success you deserve

🦉 Make it a priority

Getting press coverage takes time and effort – it won’t just fall into your lap unannounced (we wish)! That doesn’t mean you should ignore it though. It offers such magical exposure for business owners so focus on it from now. What you focus on expands, so commit to PR and don’t waver.

🦉 Get planning (I love planning!)

Be super clear on who your ideal client is as this will help you decide where to pitch your ideas. Where do they hang out, what do they read, listen to, watch? Do they have a blog? A social media account? Do they watch the news, Lorraine, crime thrillers? Then get clear on what you want to achieve with your PR. More followers, sales, to be seen as the expert in your niche? The next step is to think about the media outlets that will help you with this. Is it the local newspaper, podcast, national magazine, someone else’s blog? Once you’ve worked that out, do some research. Read the magazine, trawl around the website, listen to the podcast. You need to know the places you’re going to contact inside and out – business owners often skip this step, but it’s crucial in delivering a killer email to the journalist/editor. Buy a planner and map everything out (shopping opportunity right there!).

🦉And action

And lastly, of course, take action. It’s never too early to chase press coverage as you don’t know what lead times each outlet is working to or how booked up that podcaster is. For instance, a monthly magazine will work around four months in advance. Go on. contact them and get that media ball rolling. It could just be the best thing you ever do. Any questions, just ask in the comments. I love talking about the media I do.
