ABOUT JULIE BROWN, LIFE & BUSINESS GURU

My experience is your gain!

Hello, welcome, thank you for looking. You’ve got an amazing idea to share, that’s why you’re here right?

Entrepreneurs usually step into my part of the business world when they’ve decided they want more. These people have a great idea – maybe even an established business and are itching to tell the world about it. They could be getting ready to launch a new programme or moving their business up a gear. Many want to try something new or are readying themselves to go big.

One thing unites them all. They aren’t sure what to do next. Or even what to do first.

You’re good at what you do. Very good in fact, but you need a guiding hand (or maybe a kick up the backside) to get you moving. To bring the impact and credibility your ideas deserve. And yes, more income too.

“Julie’s “Mastering the Media” masterclass was fantastic. What this lady doesn’t know about getting into the press isn’t worth knowing! Julie has years of experience in the PR and publishing world and with her down to earth approach, helps you to cut through the myths and give practical, useful tips for engaging storylines and building contacts. Plus with her life coaching hat on, she tackles the mindset issues that get in the way for most of us too! Thank you Julie, you have opened my eyes. “

DOES ANY OF THE FOLLOWING SOUND FAMILIAR?

You’re posting on social media but not getting much engagement.

You don’t want to do ‘daft’ things to get yourself noticed.

No-one is reading your blog posts.

Your email list isn’t growing as quickly as you’d like, no matter how hard you try.

You’ve heard that media coverage can do fantastic things for your business, but you don’t know where to start.

You’re tired of not getting the results you expect, even though you’re working like crazy.

You are new to running a business and are feeling completely overwhelmed.

You feel like you are your industry’s best kept secret.

And, the big one… Drum roll please… You don’t have a queue of clients knocking your door down.

My role as your visibility and media coach is to help you create a buzz about what you do and give you the tools to have robust content and marketing strategies in place. My approach is supportive and enquiring – there’s no fluff. I want you to get results and faffing about isn’t going to cut it. We’ll still have lots of fun though.

If you are a female coach or consultant for easy to apply strategies and are craving to do the work required, we’re going to get on just fine.

GET TO KNOW ME

After working at a senior level in the NHS and as a government auditor, I did a (nerve-wracking) pivot (the word of the moment) and became a journalist. As is often the case, it was a personal, life changing event that led to this decision.

I’ve been an editor and publisher and written for loads of magazines and newspapers. I’ve managed media marketing and advertising teams and many magazine editors. Working in the media world is a marvellous thing. I still work as a freelancer from time to time as I just love to write.

My entrepreneurial journey began five years ago, and I’ve rolled all my writing, marketing, storytelling and media experience together to create my ideal business. Since then, I’ve helped hundreds of entrepreneurs to think big, take action and find the confidence to grow their business.

I’m a down to earth (northern ex-pat – it’s in the blood) coach and it’s safe to say that what you see is what you get. This is how it should be. There’s no need to change how you are to be successful. You just need the right things in place.

WHAT MAKES MY WORLD GO ROUND?

Dressmaking

I love buying clothes because I enjoy wearing the stuff that imaginative designers make. But I also adore making my own because I can tweak the patterns, choose the fabrics and lose myself in a world of imagination and creativity. And I can also tweak the fit, the shape, the length and the fasteners too. Some might thing that dressmaking is not necessary in a world of cheap fast fashion and cool vintage shops, but some of my favourite clothes are the ones I made myself.

Snowboarding

Some people like crashing waves, others seek the solitude of walking on the moors. For me it’s all about the mountains. More specifically, it’s about getting down as quickly as possible strapped onto a high-tech tea-tray. I’m not as good (yet) as I’d like to be but if you ever see me on the slopes, you’ll definitely admire my persistence.

Motorbikes

Nothing gets from A-to-B quicker and with more excitement than a motorcycle. Not being part of other people’s journeys or stuck in their queue brings a stunning sense of freedom, whether I’m nipping into town or crossing Death Valley. Being on a bike makes you a part of the landscape instead of someone passing through in an air-conditioned capsule. My current bike is a red and white Honda called Arthur. Yep, I give them all names!

Riding horses

It’s not just about what you achieve on a horse, for me it’s all about the relationship you build that allows you to get there. Persuading a half-ton of single-minded, occasionally grumpy muscle to go where you want to at the appropriate speed while jumping over things as tall as the pair of you requires a bond that doesn’t come overnight. Riding is all-or-nothing, but it’s also incredibly gentle, inspiring and joyful.

Music

‘Encouraged’ to play music as a child, I understand the joy and have worked my way through a fair few instruments. I was a whizz on violin as a very young child and have since tried the viola, clarinet, flute and guitar. My favourite and the one I stuck with is the saxophone, although I’m currently having a dalliance with the cello, which I’m truly enjoying.

Make-up/Skincare

We might want to only be as old as we feel, but that’s not much good if your skin spills the beans. Funnily enough, the time I got most interested in how I looked was straight after I stopped working for other people and had far less need to put on the warpaint. Make up and skincare for me is now a hobby not a necessity and I love it all the more for that.

Running

I’m not very good at just going out for some exercise. For me there needs to be a purpose. So, when I run it’s because I’m training for something. Like a marathon or maybe something less taxing but equally rewarding. Without a challenge, I don’t see the point and would rather keep fit in other ways.
