Media Coverage Q&A

25 October 21
I get asked so many questions about media coverage for business growth and thought I’d answer the most popular five I’ve had recently right here.

Q. Do I need to be an accomplished writer to get my story in the media?
A. Nope. Do the very best you can and the publication will do the rest. What’s important is to make sure your story is something their audience wants to read about and to write it in the style the publication uses.

Q. The journalists won’t be interested in me, will they?
A. Wrong. They have so much content to find these days and they are always on the lookout for fresh ideas, opinions and solid advice. Just try it – you’ve got nothing to lose.

Q. Will I get paid if they accept my story?
A. It’s unlikely you’ll get paid any money. Your payment is to have your website address linked to your story – which is priceless.

Q. I’ve contacted a magazine and didn’t hear anything back, what do I do now?
A. Follow up. The journalists will be expecting this so don’t worry about sending them a nudge email. There’s every chance they’ve just not seen it or have forgotten to reply.

Q. Should I send pictures with my story idea?
A. It can depend on the publication but a good rule of thumb is to say you have pictures available (if you have) but not send them until they ask you to.
